A popular gathering place for many St. Clair County groups, the Perch Point Conservation Club’s pole barn in Casco Township went up in flames this past Saturday, April 8.
Though the main building and garage of the property was not damaged in Saturday’s fire, the club shared via Facebook that the two-story barn was a complete loss. The barn, a gathering place not only for the conservation club, but 4-H clubs and more community groups, was reported on fire some time before 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, with Richmond Fire Department and New Baltimore Fire Department calling dispatch for mutual aid upon arrival at the scene.
The fire was extinguished by 8:30 p.m. that night, and while there were no injuries in the fire, donated items in the pole barn, such as targets, mounts, tables and chairs, were also lost to the flames.
Arson is not suspected.
