The Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday, April 22nd, and law enforcement agencies across the Thumb are participating in the semi-annual initiative once again.
The DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. National Drug Take Back Day aims to provide local residents a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of any unwanted or expired prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at sheriff offices and Michigan State Police Posts in Huron, Lapeer, St. Clair, Sanilac and Tuscola Counties. Various police departments across the Thumb, including the police departments of Port Huron, Caro, Vassar and Imlay City, will also be participating in collection efforts.
Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.
Residents unable to make the Saturday event are encouraged to turn in their pills throughout the week during business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
