The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is hosting a public open house at Sandusky’s City Hall on Thursday, May 4, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., for interested residents, community leaders, and local businesses to meet MDOT staff and consultants and discuss improvements on M-46 and M-19 in the city.
This project includes improvements on M-46 from Maple Valley Street to the west limits of the village of Carsonville, and M-19 from Miller Road to M-46 (Sanilac Road). As part of the project, the M-46 bridge over the Black River bridge will be replaced.
M-46 improvements in Sandusky are expected to begin in March 2024 and finish in November 2024. Road work will be coordinated with the City of Sandusky water main improvements. Remaining work on M-19 and M-46, including the Black River bridge replacement, are expected to begin in late April 2025 and finish in November 2025.
Detours will be required during the road work and bridge replacement. Dates for those closures will be announced in advance of the start of construction.
MDOT staff will be present on Thursday to answer questions regarding the scope of work and plans to maintain traffic throughout the project.
