MARLETTE, MI – A 27-year old Marlette woman sustained cuts as the result of a freak accident at Marlette Community Park on Wednesday evening. Marlette city police report the woman was at the park around 10:30 p.m. looking for a lost cell phone when she went down one of the slides and cut her leg.
The woman told authorities that she went back up the slide and located a carpenter or ‘box cutter’ type blade wedged in the seam of the slide. She removed the blade and continued to check the park for additional blades before returning home to report the incident to police and seek medical attention. The blade will be sent to the Michigan State Police crime lab for analysis and forensic evidence.
Marlette Community Schools were contacted and made aware of the report and have also checked their playground equipment.
Marlette police are continuing their investigation to include injury comparison, the recovered item by the complainant and possible witness statements.
