A St. Clair County man was arraigned last week in Macomb County for charges stemming from a drunk driving crash earlier this month.
Prosecutors allege that last Tuesday, May 9, 44- year-old Victor Aguinaga of Mussey Township was driving his Chevy Tahoe westbound on 23 Mile Road in Shelby Township near Sabrina Drive when he crossed over into eastbound traffic, hitting a Kia Sorento and killing its driver.
Aguinaga is charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death (15 Year Felony,) Driving While License Suspended Causing Death (15 Year Felony,) Possession of a Controlled Substance less than 25g (Four Year Felony,) and Open Intoxicants (90 Day Misdemeanor.)
Aguinaga was arraigned Thursday, May 11 in front of 41A Shelby Township District Court Magistrate Jim Verploeg . Magistrate Verploeg set bond at $500,000 cash/surety with drug and alcohol testing and wearing a tether upon release.
The probable cause hearing is scheduled for Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 1:30 pm and the preliminary exam is scheduled for Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 3:00 pm in front of Shelby Twp. District Court Judge Douglas Shepherd.
