Despite a shot being fired at responding St. Clair County Sheriff’s deputies, no one was injured during a Monday evening welfare check in Riley Township.
The welfare check had been requested for a 27-year-old Riley Township man by his coworkers, who reported that the man had been making suicidal statements.
When police arrived, the man was observed walking out of his garage, his rifle slung over his shoulder, before he pointed and fired at least one round at the deputies. However, no one was harmed, and no gunfire was returned.
After establishing communication with the man via phone, the 27-year-old was apprehended safely before being transported to the St. Clair County Jail.
