St. Clair County 4-H Fair introduces new changes in 2023 with help from MSU Extension

Having partnered with the Michigan State University Extension last year, the St. Clair County 4-H Fair will be seeing some new developments, as highlighted recently by MSU Extension’s Statewide Government and Community Vitality, Sustainable Tourism Educator Andy Northrop.
The educator noted that while the changes were finally coming to fruition now, they had been in development since last year, when the MSU Extension conducted “a first-time visitor assessment and analysis of their 4-H and Youth Fair (SCC4H). The fair assessment took place during the week of July 18-23, 2022. The results were shared with the SCC4H Board of Directors in September 2022.”
As the county fair board prepares for the upcoming event this summer, SCC4H Fair Board president, Rob Usakowski, shared several changes and additions to the fair this year. Included in the changes are directional signage being placed throughout the 4H park, several options for added WiFi and cell phone reception, a revamp of the brochure map and inclusion of the fair attractions on Google Maps, more music throughout the fair, a more visible entertainment tent to host the early evening opening ceremony, and a move towards digital tickets for more prepaid sales and quicker service at the fair’s entrance.
These changes were all made after the data generated from the visitor assessment provided the SCC4H Fair Board with further insight into a fairgoer’s experience and wants.
With the MSU Extension thrilled about the extensive list of new developments on behalf of the SCC4H Board, they intend for this tool to become an assessment applicable to all fairs and festivals across Michigan.
