The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear is returning to the streets of downtown Detroit from June 2-4. This three-day event will feature cars from the NTT INDYCAR SERIES racing in the Chevrolet INDYCAR Grand Prix, the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, INDY NXT by Firestone and the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli. Racers will speed down a nine turn, 1.7-mile street circuit incorporating Jefferson Avenue and Atwater Street, located along Detroit’s riverfront. With over half of the event being accessible for free to the public, this year’s Detroit Grand Prix aims to embrace the local community through inclusivity and sustainability.
No tickets or passes are required for key areas including Hart Plaza, Spirit Plaza, and the Detroit Riverwalk. The Grand Prix Entertainment Stage located in Hart Plaza will feature music all weekend long. Fans are invited to watch onstage performances from such headline acts as A-Trak at 6 PM and Big Boi at 7:30 PM Friday, along with Z-Trip at 5:30 PM and Steve Aoki at 7PM on Saturday.
The first Detroit Grand Prix was held in 1982, having started as a Formula One race through downtown Detroit before becoming a CART-sanctioned race in 1989. Economic times delayed the event after the 2008 season, however, it returned in 2012 with Chevrolet as the title sponsor. 2022 was the final year that the Grand Prix was held on Belle Isle. It is set to return to its roots in 2023 and beyond.
A total of eighty-six partners will help support the 2023 Chevrolet Grand Prix, including thirty-six new companies. This year’s event will also be implementing a more comprehensive recycling and waste diversion program, working with its partners at Priority Waste.
