CPS School Board brings back district’s equestrian club, hires new PE teacher

Receiving updates on summer school programming, the Carsonville-Port Sanilac Board of Education met last Monday, June 12 to also approve the reinstatement of Equestrian as a club sport for the next school year and the hiring of new PE/Health Teacher, Mark Beamish.
Jodi Bolsby was appointed as the equestrian team’s coach, also accepting a resignation at the same meeting from Cheerleading Coach Lynn Barrett.
Superintendent Douglas Muxlow also reported that bid opening for the campus pole barn is June 21, with the school already receiving a bid for the project. He also reports that the school should have their budget by July 1, with the school’s business manager Susan Cole working on year end budgeting.
Meanwhile, the district has shared that their summer school will run three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) eight weeks either all virtually or in-person with busing available. With different sessions focusing on different themes, such as the arts and engineering, the classes will be project based with reading instruction integrated into each theme. The school also shared that Wednesdays include a 1 hour basketball clinic for those interested.
The board also approved NEOLA Policy revisions and the school’s MHSAA membership for the next school year.
