With a classic summer event coming up in St. Clair County, the sheriff’s office is heading off any danger at this year’s Jobbie Nooner party with a few safety tips and more.
With the weather and lake warming up, recreational boating is now in full swing, and Jobbie Nooner, the area’s yearly and huge boat party, is right around the corner, happening tomorrow from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Lake St. Clair’s Gull Island. There will be a multitude of agencies patrolling the lake on Friday to ensure everyone stays safe and in the event of an emergency.
“We want everyone to be able to enjoy our waterways, whether you are attending Jobbie Nooner or anytime you are out boating please educate yourself, plan ahead, and put safety first,” says Sheriff Mat King. It is essential that as a boater, you make sure your vessel is water ready. The sheriff recommends that boaters:
- Have enough life vests for as many people are on board.
- Do not drink and boat. The legal limit for boating is the same as for driving, .08.
- Make sure all of your navigation lights are functioning properly if there is a chance you will be out after dusk.
- Be aware of potential underwater hazards.
- Know your location in the water at all times and have a cell phone or marine radio on hand in the event of an emergency.
Every year, avoidable tragedies occur. Please celebrate responsibly. If you do find yourself in an emergency, please seek out law enforcement or call 911.
