The Carsonville Community Schools Board of Education met last week to discuss the outgoing and incoming years’ budgets, as well as to hear updates about the district’s building and maintenance projects.
With the budgets for both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years approved at Tuesday’s budget hearing, the board also accepted the resignation of Maintenance/Housekeeping Director Gary Bennett at the June 27 meeting. In addition, Superintendent Doug Muxlow provided updates on projects, including details about a walkthrough with the Crane operator for the upcoming HS HVAC replacement project.
The board later called a special meeting on Thursday, June 29, to approve an almost $90,000 bid from James Dean Construction to build the district’s Pole Barn. They also ratified a four year teaching contract with the CPS Education Association, a move that Superintendent Muxlow praised, explaining that the board had met with teachers to restructure the salary schedule so they could be paid more and allow the District to better attract new teaching staff.
In the new agreement, which runs from 2023-2027, when fully implemented, a first year teacher will start with a salary of over $43,000 and a veteran teacher could earn nearly $75,000. The superintendent added that the school is currently hiring for all positions in all departments, with updated pay scales to be posted to the school website soon.
