The Sanilac County Historical Society will be hosting local author Helen Bigelow on Saturday, July 8, to talk about her book, “Our Heroes Next Door: World War II Memories Revealed by Veterans.”
The presentation will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Historic Church at the Sanilac County Historic Village. Our Heroes Next Door is a collection of true memories and stories from veterans of World War II. The book includes tales of the struggle and sacrifices they made to preserve freedom back at home.
Bigelow will discuss the individuals she interviewed for the book and share photos and other details of their stories.
Bigelow, a retired school teacher and counselor from North Branch, has also written another book called, “Coffee Grounds and Potato-Peeling Pancakes”, which included interviews and stories from survivors of the Holocaust. Both books will be available for purchase at the program.
There will be a Q&A after the lecture.
