Port Huron residents in the vicinity of 13th and Pearl as well 16th and Wells were asked to avoid the area for over 5 hours yesterday evening following a shooting and subsequent investigation on Lapeer Avenue.
On July 12, around 6:00 p.m., Port Huron Police received a report of a shooting in the 1300 block of Lapeer Avenue. When officers arrived in the area, they located a 19-year-old Port Huron man with a gunshot wound. Tri-Hospital EMS transported the victim to McLaren Port Huron Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Officers on the scene located two subjects in the area that matched the description of the shooter and their accomplice. The subjects, both of them 15-year-old boys from Detroit, were taken into custody after a short foot chase. Investigators searched the neighborhood where this incident occurred and located a firearm that was possibly used in this incident.
Port Huron Police Detectives and the Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene with patrol officers. The Port Huron Police Department was assisted by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, Marysville Police Department, and Michigan State Police.
