A bicyclist was seriously injured after colliding into a vehicle last Thursday in Casco Township.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office reports that around 6:10 p.m. on July 13, county dispatch received multiple calls stating that a man on a bike had been hit by a car. Several agencies, such as Michigan State Police, Richmond Lenox EMS, the Ira Fire Department and the Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol Division and Accident Investigation Team, responded to the scene at County Line Rd and the I-94 overpass.

The bicyclist, a 50-year-old Casco Township man, was transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital with serious injuries, while the driver, a 43-year-old Casco Township woman, was uninjured.

Witness statements and preliminary investigation indicate that both the bicycle and vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox, were northbound with the bicycle in the southbound lane. When the bicyclist crossed over into the northbound lane, he collided with the vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation and names are not being released at this time pending notification of family.
