The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office has provided a follow up to the investigation of the shooting incident that occurred just before 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11 in Peck.
Around 1:52 a.m. at a home in the 5700 block of Mills Street, police were called by a 19-year-old at the residence, who reported the incident and was uninjured in the incident. Upon arrival, the 46-year-old male homeowner was found with two apparent gunshots, while a 38-year-old woman who was also living at the home was found dead with an apparent gunshot as well.
Investigation has revealed that this shooting stemmed from a Domestic Violence incident that took place at the residence. Findings suggest that during an argument at the residence, the woman grabbed a gun and pointed it at the male homeowner. The man tried to get the gun away from the female, but during the struggle, he was shot twice, causing serious injury.
Information obtained from the scene, statements and an autopsy of the woman indicate that she died from a self- inflicted gunshot. The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau continues to investigate this incident, but no further information including names will be released at this time.
The 46-year-old homeowner has been released from the hospital and is recovering from his injuries.
