Congratulations are in order for Detective Sergeant Steve McKenney who retired Friday, July 28, from the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office following a 25-year career.
Detective Sgt. McKenney started with the Sheriff’s Office in October 1997 as a Corrections Deputy, transferring to the Uniform Services Division in 2004 after attending Delta College’s Police Academy. He worked his way through the ranks, serving as a Uniform Services Deputy, Drug Task Force Investigator, Sergeant and retired as a Detective Sergeant, a position he has held since 2019.
Detective Sgt. McKenney was instrumental in bringing the ALICE program to area schools, experience that will be an asset at his new position as a part-time School Resource Officer for the Sandusky Police Department.
Detective Sgt. McKenney was presented Friday with his official retirement credentials, badge and a flag that had been flown this week in honor of his 25 years of service.
