The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office received reports around 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, from the 7600 block of Smiths Creek in Wales Township that a crashed car had been found empty. The 59-year-old driver was found near the car, being pronounced deceased at the scene due to his many injuries.
According to the sheriff’s office, investigation found that the man had been driving west in his 2010 Buick Lacrosse on Smiths Creek Road when he went off the right side of the road. Going into the ditch, he hit a pole and became airborne before the car rolled several times.
