With cleanup needed after a severe thunderstorm damaged the city about two weeks ago, downing power lines, trees and traffic signals, Port Huron City Manager James Freed reports that the costs for that storm cleanup totals are rolling in.
In an email sent to the city council and Mayor Pauline Repp this morning, Freed noted that these numbers and costs are not final, but he will share that information once he has it. Contributing to that final number will be around $200,000 in contractor costs and about $100,000 for the city’s forestry and streets staff work, including overtime.
With the cost to be billed to the street and General Fund, Freed estimates that the total cost will be between $300,000 and $400,000. Freed reported that “these numbers do not include [Police and Fire Department] costs, but their calls for service were voluminous.”
The July 20th storm, which saw golf-ball sized hail in St. Clair, came less than a week after parts of Sanilac County were ravaged by an EF-0 tornado and accompanying severe thunderstorms.
