Clay Township Police and the United States Coast Guard searched portions of Lake St. Clair yesterday after a local resident reported a sunk jet ski in the water.
On Sunday, August 13, Clay Township Police were informed after 7:00 a.m. of the find, with the red watercraft seen in the middle channel, near the third buoy. Summoned to the scene an hour later, the U.S. Coast Guard initiated searches by air and water, attempting to locate the craft’s operator and any related debris.
No debris was found, and Clay Township and other local police agencies have not received any missing/overdue persons report that could be correlated to the find. Though the north part of the lake was the site of an unsanctioned event called Raft Off just a day prior, authorities have not said if they believe the two are connected.
Also assisting in yesterday’s search was the St. Clair County Marine Division.
