accident-2

A two vehicle crash Sunday afternoon left one man dead and a woman in need of medical care according to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office.
On Sunday, August 27, just after 12:30 P.M., a Deputy was in the 2700 block of S. Lakeshore Road on a complaint when they heard what they believed to be a traffic crash just north of their location. The Deputy responded and found a two-vehicle traffic crash had occurred on Lakeshore Road near Applegate Road. Additional emergency services were requested to the scene.
The Deputy was assisted on scene by good Samaritans who helped provide assistance to a 30-year-old female and her 1-year-old son, who were occupants of one of the vehicles involved. The Deputy was also assisted with removing an unresponsive 71-year-old man from the other vehicle involved, with medical treatment administered on scene.
Initial investigation determined that a 71-year-old man from Applegate, driving a 2016 Toyota passenger car, had been parked on the west shoulder of the roadway. The Toyota then proceeded across both lanes of traffic toward a driveway entrance on the east side of the roadway when it was struck by a northbound 2018 Jeep SUV. The 2018 Jeep was being driven by a 30- year-old woman from Applegate, who also had her 1-year-old son in a car seat in the vehicle.
The 30-year-old woman was treated on scene by Sanilac EMS and was transported to Port Huron Hospital for further treatment. The 1-year-old was uninjured in the accident. Despite efforts on scene, the 71-year-old Applegate man passed away as a result of the crash.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Lexington Police Department, Port Sanilac Fire Department and Sanilac EMS. This traffic crash remains under investigation.
