Yesterday, Sanilac County Prosecutors filed two further charges against Andrew Jewell, the 19-year-old accused of grabbing an eight-year-old girl at a Sandusky thrift store.
The charges, attempted unlawful imprisonment and attempted kidnapping/child enticement, are both felonies, with unlawful imprisonment punishable by 15 years in prison and child enticement carrying a possible life sentence. He was arraigned for the new charges on Thursday, August 31.
He still is being charged with misdemeanor assault and battery, which he was arrested for on Friday, August 25, after the original incident.
Last Friday, around 1:45 p.m, Sandusky Police were dispatched to the Hope Thrift Store in downtown Sandusky due to a report that Jewell was trying to force a girl into the bathroom. Officer Matthew Gezequel responded and arrested the 19-year-old man that was staying at a local men’s shelter and volunteering at the store.
He also pleaded no contest to an assault and battery charge when it was brought against him last year in Saginaw County after he pulled a similar stunt and pulled a 10-year-old girl into a movie theater bathroom, with the child fighting him off in the 2022 incident.
Jewell is next due back in court on September 18 for a pre-trial on the misdemeanor assault charge, with him back the next day on September 19 for his probable cause conference regarding the felonies.
