No one harmed during Labor Day boat fire near Port Sanilac

Boaters celebrating Labor Day a mile offshore from Port Sanilac had to pause their fun after their vessel caught fire Monday morning.
Just after 11:30 a.m. on Monday, September 4, Central Dispatch received a call of a boat on fire in Lake Huron. Sheriff’s Office Marine Deputies were dispatched to the scene approximately a mile off shore, south of Port Sanilac.Upon arriving on scene Deputies found a 26 foot 2001 Cobalt boat with smoke coming from the rear of the vessel. Deputies found that all occupants were safely able to get off the boat and onto another nearby boat. Lexington Fire and Port Sanilac Fire were requested for assistance and were able to extinguish the fire and tow the boat to the boat launch.
No injuries were reported in this incident. Authorities have not shared what could have caused the fire.
