Tuesday morning crash in Greenleaf Twp. leaves two dead after driver runs stop sign

A 65-year-old woman and a five-year-old child were killed this morning in a two vehicle crash in Greenleaf Township.
Around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5,  Central Dispatch received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of M-53 and Bay City- Forestville Roads in Greenleaf Township. Calls reported that one of the vehicles had rolled and that an occupant of one of the vehicles was ejected. Deputies along with Cass City Fire, Cass City MMR, Marlette EMS and the Michigan State Police Caro Post were dispatched to the scene.Initial investigation on scene determined that a 2007 Chevrolet Impala was eastbound on Bay City- Forestville Road when it failed to stop at the stop sign at M-53 (Van Dyke Road). The Chevrolet Impala struck the passenger side of a southbound 2020 Chrysler Pacific, causing the Chrysler Pacifica to overturn, ejecting the driver of the Chrysler. Both vehicles exited the roadway into a yard on the southeast corner of the intersection.The southbound Chrysler was being driven by a 73-year-old man from Elkton who was treated on scene before being transported to McLaren Bad Axe by Marlette EMS. He was later transferred to McLaren Lapeer for further treatment of injuries. The passenger of the Chrysler, a 65-year-old woman from Elkton was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The eastbound Chevrolet Impala was being driven by a 17-year-old girl from Unionville. She was treated on scene before being transported by Cass City MMR to Hills and Dales Hospital for further treatment of her injuries. The rear seat passenger of the Impala, a 5-year-old from Unionville, was also pronounced deceased at the scene.The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the the Sanilac County Road Commission. This is an ongoing investigation and no further details are being released at this time.
