Parents of Millington Jr/Sr High School students in Tuscola County were informed Monday morning of a threat made against the school over the weekend, with subsequent investigation by school and law enforcement authorities finding the threat to not be credible.
Millington Community Schools Superintendent Steve Bouvy wrote to parents on October 2, explaining that a junior high student made “an inappropriate and irresponsible social media post that was perceived as a possible threat” to the school. The student allegedly was in a group chat on Snapchat, posting there that they planned to go “shoot up the school,” also posting a picture of a gun with the message.
When informed of the threat on Monday morning, school administration immediately contacted Millington Police Chief Brian Cartner, with school personnel also searching the student’s locker, backpack, and belongings. The search and police investigation found the threat not credible, with the student not having the capacity to carry out an attack.
The responsible student and their parents were spoken to by local law enforcement, with the case now in the hands of the Millington Police Department and the Tuscola County Prosecutor.
