A St. Clair County man thought there was an issue with his ticket until he realized he’d won an almost $167,000 Fantasy 5 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.
David Wigle, of East China, matched the winning Fantasy 5 numbers on Sept. 17 to win the big prize. He bought his winning ticket at Corner Grocery, located at 339 Fairbanks Street in Marine City.
The 72-year-old says that he’s played the lottery for a long time, with Fantasy 5 being a regular game for him.
The day after the drawing, Wigle says he took his ticket to the store and thought there was an issue with the ticket after it prompted him to “file a claim” upon scanning. He handed his ticket to the cashier, asking her to check it for an issue.
While she had the ticket, she received a call from the store owner telling her they had sold a jackpot winning Fantasy 5 ticket. A double check of Wigle’s ticket and they discovered he was the big winner.
Though winning the jackpot hasn’t fully sunk in for him yet, Wigle says he plans to use the winnings (totaling $166,841) to buy a new truck and save the rest.
