A Wednesday morning accident in Lapeer between a semi-truck and sedan only saw one injured, Lapeer City Fire and Rescue reported.
Crews were dispatched yesterday morning around 7:30 a.m. to the 400 block of South Main Street/M-24 in Lapeer, in front of the McDonald’s, to assist in freeing a trapped woman from her vehicle.
Crews found the four-door hatchback vehicle on its side in the middle of the M-24 roadway, with only one occupant trapped inside. Once crews stabilized the vehicle, the windshield was removed and the woman was freed, being released into the care of Lapeer County EMS. She was later transported to McLaren-Lapeer hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The semi-truck driver was uninjured.
With fluid and roadway cleanup needed after the accident, the road was closed during and after the incident, reopening the road shortly after 8:00 a.m.
Via press release, the City of Lapeer Fire and Rescue urged drivers and passengers to always wear their seatbelts, especially as the woman in yesterday’s accident was not wearing her seatbelt.
In addition, the Fire and Rescue praised an off-duty North Branch firefighter who stopped at the scene and was able to evaluate the situation and provide important information to arriving crews. Also assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, Lapeer City Police, Lapeer County EMS and MDOT.
