A crash between a beet hauler and a pickup truck last Friday morning saw two being injured and beets on the roadway.
Around 10:50 a.m. on Friday, October 27, a commercial pickup truck was heading west on M-81 with a beet hauler traveling behind it. The pickup truck’s driver, a 28-year-old Vassar man, began to turn north onto Colwood Road (in Almer Township), slowing down a bit to do so.
The beet hauler’s driver, a 58-year-old man from Harbor Beach, was not able to stop in time to avoid a collision with the back of the pickup in front of him.
He attempted to avoid the collision by going around it to the right, but with the pickup truck already making a right hand turn, the pickup instead struck the side of the beet truck. The collision caused the hauler to roll onto its side, spilling the beets onto the roadway.
The Harbor Beach man was injured in the crash, being transported to a local hospital by MMR. A passenger in the pickup truck, a 50-year-old man from the Caro area, was also injured and transported to a local hospital by MMR.
