With three meetings left for 2023, the Croswell City Council began Monday’s meeting with a report from Auditor Ken Berthiaume for 2022/2023. According to the report, several of Croswell’s funds are in a deficit with the worst being that of the ambulance fund. As it currently stands, the fund is at a deficit of over 1 million dollars.
“The way it’s surviving is borrowing money from other funds–like the electric fund, for example. So, the ambulance fund is not efficient,” Berthiaume reported to the council. “And probably. . . [what] you’re gonna need to do there is look at increasing the revenues [there] somehow–and the ambulance fund–or decreasing expenses.”
The city also announced that the low-pressure sewer system to be developed on Croswell Road has received three bids. This system would safely service all six lots located near Taco Bell. City Administrator Dave Tait recommended that Croswell go with Goretski Excavating Inc. at an overall cost of $27,800 (twenty-seven thousand eight hundred dollars), as they’ve completed work for the city before.
Also, Tait will be drafting a job description title for a new Utilities Director. Croswell has been without an official director since Greg Alexander, the previous Utility and Community Development Director, left following his employment as a state representative in 2022.
The next council meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 20, 2023.
