The Sanilac County Historical Museum and Village will be heralding the holiday season with a Christmas Open House and the debut of their Lighted Trail on Saturday, November 25.
The community is invited to join from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the museum for caroling, treats, hot cocoa and bonfires. This event precedes Port Sanilac’s tree lighting at 5:30 p.m. in Fire Hall Park, kicking off the town’s Festival of Lights. Santa will be on hand after the tree lighting, with hot cocoa and cookies provided to attendees waiting to meet Santa. The museum debuts their Lighted Trail at 6:30 p.m. with the community invited to enjoy the lights until 8 p.m. that evening.
Brighten your holiday with a stroll through the Lighted Christmas Trail in the historic village and nature trail, which will be lighted and decorated for the season. Most of the historic buildings, including the Troop Train, will be decorated. Check out the many Christmas trees, especially the largest one on the nature trail, and don’t miss “Santa’s Workshop” inside the picture window at the General Store.
After the Lighted Trail Debut and Open House on November 25, the Lighted Christmas Trail will be lit from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. every evening through January 2. Doing so will somewhat increase the museum’s electric bill, so if you would like to help fund some Christmas cheer, attendees can drop donations in the donation pipes located along the driveway near the showcase, and in front of the church.
This is overall a FREE event for the community, but donations will be greatly appreciated! The first $500 in donations will be matched by friends at Women’s Life Insurance Society.
