Two Tuscola County businesses destroyed in Thursday fire

A lack of fire hydrants exacerbated a difficult situation as firefighters in Tuscola County struggled against a blaze in Fairgrove last Thursday, with the fire destroying two businesses before it was extinguished.

Firefighting crews responded to Laethem Farm Service Co. and Boss Snowplows, located on Center Street just west of Main Street, the morning of November 30 due to reports of a structure fire.

Crews fought the blaze despite requiring tanker trucks from Akron and Caro’s fire departments to bring water to the scene, due to the village not having fire hydrants installed. Despite best efforts, Thursday’s fire saw the entire building’s roof collapse, as well as portions of the building’s walls.

Investigation into the fire’s cause continues.
