The Sandusky City Council met last Monday to discuss plans for many of the city’s current projects.

City Manager David Faber informed the council that he attended the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Meeting. There was a pre-bid meeting with contractors for the airport projects. Bids for that will be due next Friday, December 15. He also met to review the five-year layout plan for the airport.

In addition, Faber noted that he has not heard back from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) about setting up a meeting to discuss the M-46/M-19 project. Several residents expressed their concerns about the lack of communication, urging the council to continue to push for further discussion.

The M-46/M-19 project was unveiled last May as part of a public open house. Improvements to be made include M-46 from Maple Valley Street to the west limits of Carsonville, and M-19 from Miller Road to M-46 (Sanilac Road). Also part of this project is the M-46 bridge over the Black River which will be replaced. The M-46 improvements are expected to begin in March 2024 and will finish in November 2024. The remaining work on M-19 and M-46 is planned to begin in late April 2025 and will wrap up around November 2025.

The Sandusky City Council’s last meeting for 2023 will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023.
