The Croswell-Lexington School Board finished up 2023 with their Monday meeting, featuring plenty of exciting developments for the upcoming school year.

High school art teacher, Crystal Stomack, proposed plans for a Student State Leadership field trip. This trip would provide high school student council members with an opportunity to meet and collaborate with other student councils from around the state. The cost of this trip is estimated to be around $4,625 and would cover all necessary expenses. Plans were approved by the board with finalizations to be made at January’s meeting.

The board also provided updates on the district’s curriculum plans. The current writing pilot being used for K5 will be wrapping up at the end of the first semester. Information on pricing is being gathered for the 6-12 Into Literature English language arts program. Meanwhile, testing scores have been improving. Based on results from spring of 2023, the middle school did not receive a targeted support and improvement designation (TSI). This identification is given to any schools that are “consistently underperforming,” as defined by the state of Michigan.

“Kudos to the students, staff, and administration at the middle school for improving those scores,” said Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Human Resources Kyle Wood.

The next school board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the middle school media center on January 15, 2024.
