A Huron County man has been referred for a competency evaluation after an early December incident in Tuscola County earned him 15 criminal charges.
34-year-old Ubly man Cody Derrik Grifka was scheduled to appear in Tuscola County District Court for a preliminary examination yesterday, December 27, to hear evidence against him on several charges, including second-degree home invasion, third offense domestic assault, nine counts of resisting and obstructing police, two counts of malicious destruction of property and two counts of malicious destruction of police or fire department property.
Grifka is alleged to have illegally entered a Unionville home, destroyed the property, committed domestic assault and then fought with the police when they responded to the scene. However, a week following arraignment on December 11 by Magistrate Joseph Van Auken, Grifka was ordered by District Judge Jason Bitzer to undergo a competency evaluation.
The Ubly man is scheduled for a review before the district court in February, and is still being held at the Tuscola County Jail on a combined $50,000 cash bond.
