With the holidays sometimes exacerbating already difficult financial situations, Eastern Michigan Bank teamed up with local law enforcement for a pilot program that brought some much needed cheer.
This holiday season, Eastern Michigan Bank provided the Sheriff’s Offices of Sanilac and St. Clair counties with fifty $50 gift cards each to be handed out by deputies this holiday season when they encountered a person in need. The program ran from December 14 to December 31, 2023. Although many people only encounter law enforcement on their worst days, Eastern Michigan Bank gave deputies an opportunity to brighten someone’s day with an unexpected gift.
The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office was pleased that, thanks to the program, they were able to assist the community in several ways. For instance, the program allowed for gift cards to be distributed to families in need through area schools, as well as address more specific needs, such as replacing a stolen bike and assisting in car repairs that would have been unaffordable otherwise.
With the program an all-around success, St. Clair County Sheriff Mat King thanked Eastern Michigan Bank for “choosing the Sheriff’s Office to be the channel in which the gift cards were distributed,” with the program seen as “a wonderful way to improve community relations, while helping those in need at the same time.”
