The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a pedestrian yesterday night in Columbus Township.
Emergency responders were dispatched yesterday to the area of Gratiot Road near the Pinewood on the Lakes community after the crash was reported. The preliminary investigation shows that a 2012 Ford Escape was westbound on Gratiot Road around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, when it collided with an 18-year-old Columbus Township man walking on foot in the roadway.
The pedestrian succumbed to his injuries on scene while the driver and their passenger of the Ford Escape were uninjured. They are cooperating in the investigation.
Gratiot Road was shut down for several hours during the investigation. At this time, it is not believed that alcohol or speed was a factor.  The St. Clair County Accident Investigation Team is continuing the investigation. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene was the Richmond Lenox Fire Department.
