Two Lapeer County Sheriff’s deputies hit during I-69 traffic accident

The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office announced that one of their deputies has been released from the hospital while the other one is in stable condition following a traffic crash yesterday evening on westbound I-69.
Two Lapeer County Sheriff’s deputies and their vehicles were stopped near Hadley Road on westbound I-69, to conduct a traffic stop around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, with a passenger asked during the stop to step out for further investigation.
Around this same time, a westbound black Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 50-year-old Flint man, failed to slow down and move over while passing the traffic stop and lost control of his vehicle. The Jeep struck the second deputy’s patrol vehicle, causing it to crash into the first deputy’s patrol vehicle.
The first patrol vehicle then struck one deputy and the passenger who were outside the vehicles, with both the passenger and deputy sustaining minor injuries and requiring transport to a local hospital for medical treatment. They were later released.
The driver of the Jeep had serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. While it’s unclear when the second deputy was hit, the sheriff’s department did confirm two deputies had been hit during the incident, with the second deputy in stable condition as of Thursday evening.
The traffic crash remains under investigation, with all completed reports to be sent to the Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
