A Sanilac County man is in custody following a domestic violence incident Wednesday afternoon.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a call around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17 from a 41-year-old Deckerville woman, who had fled her home with her two children, ages six and 13, following a domestic assault. The woman noted that they had been able to leave the location and were safely at a home near Carsonville. The original incident was reported to have happened on Loree Road in Sanilac County’s Bridgehampton Township.
Upon meeting with the woman in Carsonville, officers gathered enough evidence to show a domestic violence incident had occurred, with the woman assaulted and her car shot at multiple times as she drove her and her children to safety. Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies were also dispatched to the original address in Bridgehampton Township to talk with the male homeowner.
While at the home, deputies found evidence to support the allegations and the 34-year-old Carsonville man was arrested without incident. After the arrest, a search warrant was executed at the Bridgehampton Township residence and the pistol used in the incident was located along with additional ammunition. Deputies were assisted with the search warrant by the Sanilac County Drug Task Force.
The man was arraigned Friday, January 19, on five charges: three felony charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, one misdemeanor charge of domestic violence (third offense) and one misdemeanor charge for reckless use of firearms. One count of felonious assault with a weapon carries up to four years in prison and/or a fine of $2,000.
He is currently lodged at the Sanilac County Jail on a $50,000 cash/surety bond, with his next court appearance slated for Tuesday, January 30.
