Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson is warning offshore anglers on Saginaw Bay to be cautious of the ice.
Despite reports of ice over six inches thick, “recent aerial observations are indicating open pockets of water in Huron and Tuscola Counties,” Hanson noted Friday. Paired with the appearance of different areas of deformed ice and the thin ice can pose a risk to someone’s safety and even their life.
With the local ice fishing season not even a week old and the weather changing, existing ice is being compromised by the wild fluctuations in temperature. Fishermen are advised not to take the ice for granted, especially if they fish in the dark.
