One man is dead and two more are injured following a single car accident in St. Clair County’s Riley Township.
Emergency responders were dispatched around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20 to the area of Bordman and Wales Ridge Roads after reports of a crash. Investigation thus far shows that a 2003 Ford F-250, occupied by three people, was westbound on Bordman Road when the vehicle lost control and left the road on the north side. The truck continued before overturning onto an iced-over pond, coming to rest in the water after breaking through the ice.
One of the passengers of the vehicle was ejected prior to the truck entering the water while a second passenger was able to free himself from the truck while it was in the pond and swim to shore. However, the driver of the vehicle was unaccounted for until the dive team found him submerged in the water.
Despite lifesaving efforts performed on scene and transport to McLaren Macomb Hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries. Bordman Road was shut down during the investigation.
While the road is re-opened, the St. Clair County Accident Investigation team continues to investigate.
