accident

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office responded to two fatal car crashes this past Friday, January 19.

The first accident occurred on Peck Road near Fairway Lane in Lexington Township, with Central Dispatch receiving the call shortly after 1:00 p.m. The caller reported that CPR was being done to one of the occupants in the two involved cars.

Deputies, along with the Lexington and Croswell Police Departments, Lexington Fire Department and Croswell EMS, were dispatched to the scene.

Investigation determined that a westbound 2006 GMC Envoy lost control and crossed the centerline of Peck Road, striking an eastbound 2024 Chevrolet Silverado. The Silverado was occupied by a 47-year-old Croswell man and his 45-year-old wife. The crash was witnessed by an off-duty police officer who was able to aid and perform life saving measures until personnel could arrive on scene.

Despite best efforts, the driver of the 2006 GMC Envoy, a 60-year-old Worth Township woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Croswell couple did sustain injuries from the crash, and were transported to Port Huron Hospital by Croswell EMS.

While on the scene of the Lexington Township crash, Sanilac County Central Dispatch received another call shortly before 3:20 p.m., reporting another two-vehicle traffic crash, this time in Marion Township. Deputies were dispatched to the scene with Deckerville Fire Department and Sanilac EMS.

On-scene investigation found that a southbound 2012 Dodge Ram, driven by a 97-year-old Deckerville man, had failed to yield at the intersection of Deckerville Road and Goetze Road, and was hit by a westbound 2014 GMC Sierra. The 2014 Sierra was driven by a 59-year-old Carsonville man, who reported no injuries.

The same could not be said about the Deckerville man, with firefighters using the jaws of life to remove the 97-year-old man. He was attended to by Sanilac EMS and transported to McKenzie Hospital before a later transfer to Saginaw’s St. Mary’s Hospital. Despite further treatment, the man passed due to his injuries.

These crashes remain under investigation by the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office and no further details are being released at this time
