What began as a domestic violence incident ended as a 15-hour standoff for Port Huron Police and other assisting agencies this past Saturday, February 3.
Local officers responded shortly before 5:30 p.m. to the 1100 block of Chestnut Street in Port Huron after 23-year-old Joshua Frazier reportedly shot a handgun after an altercation with his family. Though most of the family was able to flee before police arrived, a 16-year-old was forced to remain in the home against their will before eventually escaping to safety.
The suspect barricaded himself in the house with multiple firearms, firing several rounds as police ordered him to leave the house and continuing to shoot at police from within the home. During the standoff, the 23-year-old was seen wearing body armor, and in addition to firing at police, he shot one of the tactical teams’ drones and an armored Michigan State Police vehicle.
After 15 hours of standoff, which included police deploying irritant gas into the home and extensive damage to the residence, the suspect exited the home and was taken into custody around 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
Frazier was arraigned on Monday, February 5, on charges of unlawful imprisonment, assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm in an occupied building, wearing armor during the commission of a felony, resisting/obstructing police and three counts of felony firearm.
His bond was set at $500,000 cash or surety, with Frazier due back in the 72nd District Court for his probable cause conference next week.
