Croswell City Council met this past Monday in brief session with the main discussion surrounding the approval of vacation time and a holiday stipend for Croswell police chief Ron Buckmaster. Buckmaster, former Marysville assistant director of public safety, was appointed chief in April 2021. For the past three years Buckmaster has dedicated himself to serving the Croswell community, and he is now offering to work during the holidays to make up for the department being down one member. City administrator David Tait made the motion to approve six days of vacation time, as well as the holiday pay stipend which includes $210 per holiday worked for the police chief.
Croswell is currently looking to hire a full-time officer with one potential candidate set to finishing training in the fall. Due to the open position, Buckmaster is planning on working three holidays with no request for overtime pay. The total cost of the stipend was $630, and it was approved by all but one council member.
The next city council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
