The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office announced that a second suspect in the murder of Karen Umphrey was arrested Tuesday.

Anthony Harris, now 63-years-old, was arrested without incident February 6 in connection with the murder in November 1980. Umphrey, a 21-year-old Marysville High School graduate and secretary for Marysville Marine Distributors, was found dead in Clyde Township a day after being last seen leaving a party.

Harris was arraigned Wednesday, February 7, 2024 by Judge Mona Armstrong on the 72nd District Court where bond was set at $2,000,000.

St. Clair County Sheriff detectives, along with St. Clair County Prosecutor’s Office, have done an extensive amount of investigating, research, and interviewing to make arrests in this case, which includes Douglas Laming. Laming was arrested and arraigned in December 2023 after forensic identification and interviews found vital connections between Laming and Umphrey.
