A 47-year-man was killed Friday in a fire that fully engulfed his Vassar home.
The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office shared that shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Friday, February 9, a passerby reported a structure fire at 8048 West Sanilac Road in Denmark Township, with two detached sheds on the property also catching fire. When the fire was reported, it was unknown if anyone was inside the trailer house.
First to arrive on scene was the Richville Fire Department, with other assisting agencies including MMR and the fire departments of Reese, Vassar, Fairgrove, and Frankenmuth. When the property owners arrived at the scene, they indicated that the trailer house was most likely occupied.
That was confirmed after the fire was extinguished, as crews confirmed one fatality from the fire, that of the trailer house’s resident. His name is being withheld pending formal identification, with his autopsy also pending. Michigan State Police’s Fire Marshals are assisting with the investigation, with the fire’s source still unidentified.
