Bad Axe Police warn against financial scams via phone

The Bad Axe Police Department is reminding the community to keep their personal information safe following reports of a recent scam.
The department was notified of the scam earlier yesterday by a Bad Axe resident, who reported a man had called them, claiming to work for a security firm hired by a local financial institution. The male caller was able to obtain personal information from the resident, and did attempt to defraud the resident, but failed after the victim recognized the issue and contacted their bank.
Bad Axe Police would like to remind citizens that they should never give out personal or financial information over the telephone. If someone calls you asking for that information, you should reply by asking for their name, job title, and their supervisor’s name before ending the call and contacting police with any further concerns.
In addition, suspected fraudulent activity can be reported to the Federal Trade Commission online at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
