St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office K9 Brock will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
K9 Brock’s vest is sponsored by Carolyn Chrissotimos of Colorado Springs, CO and will be embroidered with the sentiment “Honoring those who served and sacrificed”. Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.
Brock’s new vest is just one of almost 5,500 provided nationwide by the charity, with the K9 body armor vests custom fitted, and certified by the National Institute of Justice. Each vest has a value of $1800, weighs an average of 4-5 lb., and comes with a five-year warranty. The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies.
Brock, who is now three-years-old and has been with the sheriff’s office for about a year now, isn’t the only local K-9 to receive the gift. In January, Tuscola County’s K-9 Belo also received a vest from the non-profit.
