With no plea agreement reached and arraignment proceedings waived in December, the Sanilac County Circuit Court will be holding a status conference this Wednesday regarding Andrew Jewell, the man accused of grabbing a child at a Sandusky thrift store.
Jewell, last in court over two months ago, is charged with attempted unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping/child enticement and assault/battery after trying to drag an 8-year-old girl into the bathroom of the local Hope Thrift Store in late August 2023.
As part of his last court appearance, Jewell’s court-appointed attorney, Eric Scott, requested the matter be set for trial, and Circuit Court Judge Timothy Wrathell scheduled the two-day trial to begin on May 9, 2024 at 9:30 a.m.
It’s unclear if the county prosecutors and Jewell’s defense have come to a plea agreement in the elapsed time, with the 10:00 a.m. status conference on February 28th to be the public’s first look at the case’s progress in almost 70 days.
Currently, Jewell is still scheduled for a final pretrial conference on April 24.
