A dog and its owner required rescue earlier today after accidentally breaking through the ice at a Caseville Township beach.
The Huron County Sheriff’s Office reports that they were dispatched with other emergency responders to a beach near Bay Drive on Sand Point, in Caseville Township.
The involved party, a woman and her two dogs, had been walking in the area when the dogs chased a bird out onto unsafe ice. One dog broke through the ice, falling into about four-feet-deep water. The woman attempted to rescue the dog but instead fell into the water too.
After some struggle, she was able to get back onto the ice, and a short time later, the Caseville Fire Department arrived to her aid. With ice rescue gear, they were able to get the dog out of the water and everyone back to shore safely.
The woman refused treatment at the scene, with no injuries reported for the dogs.
