A Port Huron principal is being honored by the Michigan Lottery as the most recent winner of their Excellence In Education award.
Known for “creating a culture of caring,” winner Michael Palmer, principal at Port Huron High School, was nominated by superintendent Theo Kerhoulas, who praised Palmer for job performance, as well as the lengths he will go for staff and students alike.
As a winner of the weekly award, Palmer receives a $2,000 cash prize, and Palmer has a shot at the big money at the end of the school year, with one of the weekly award winners to be selected to receive the Lottery’s Educator of the Year award and a $10,000 cash prize.
Palmer earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree from Marygrove College. He has worked in education for 24 years, the last 10 in his current position. Palmer says supportive family members and high school teachers encouraged him to pursue a career in education.
