A St. Clair County senior assistant prosecutor was recently appointed to the county’s probate court as its judge.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the appointment of St. Clair County’s newest probate judge, Jennifer Smith Deegan, on Tuesday, March 19.
Deegan will be taking over the role left vacant after Judge Elwood L. Brown’s retirement earlier this year. Deegan will serve in the role for the rest of the year, with the November election to determine who will assume the probate bench in 2025.
Deegan is currently the senior assistant prosecuting attorney in the St. Clair County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. In addition to working in the prosecuting attorney’s office since 1999, she served as a law clerk for three different circuit court judges in the 31st Circuit Court, and as a staff attorney for Consolidated Legal Services in Southfield.
In 2014, Deegan received the David M. Schieber Life Saver Award. She currently sits as Board Chair for Lake Huron Medical Center. Deegan received her Bachelor of Arts in International Business and French from Alma College and her Juris Doctor from Wayne State University School of Law.
Deegan’s term will commence on April 8, 2024, and expire at twelve o’clock noon on January 1, 2025.
